Coach’s Expectations – Track & Field
As student-athletes, you are held to a high standard and are expected to represent our team with integrity, respect, and dedication—both on and off the track. Your behavior at practices, meets, and in school should reflect the responsibility that comes with being part of this team.

Academics Come First
You are a student-athlete—which means student comes first! Your education is the top priority, and track should never come before your homework, projects, tests, or grades. We check eligibility every Thursday, and those who are struggling academically may face athletic consequences.
Additionally, students who consistently have behavioral issues in school may also see an impact on their athletic standing. Your character and conduct matter just as much as your performance.

Team Selection & Expectations
While we use performance data (times, distances, etc.) to determine our top athletes, other factors play a role as well. If a decision comes down to two athletes of similar ability, we will choose the one who:
✔ Works hard in practice
✔ Maintains a positive attitude
✔ Follows team rules and expectations
✔ Acts responsibly at away meets
✔ Is a supportive and respectful teammate

Rosters can change throughout the season based on competition results, effort, and attitude.

Commitment & CommunicationI
I understand that many of you are involved in multiple activities, and I strive to be as flexible as possible. However, communication is key!
If you need to miss a meet or practice due to other obligations, please let me know in advance.
Students who participate in religious education, scholastic bowl, band, choir, math team, drama, etc. are excused from practices for these events.

Integrity & Behavior
With a large team and limited coaches, it is essential that athletes demonstrate integrity and responsibility—whether or not a coach is watching. If a student cannot be part of the team without causing conflicts, we will collaborate with the coaches and dean/ athletic director to determine the best course of action. In some cases, an athlete may be asked to leave the team.

Being an Athlete is a Privilege, Not a Right
Participation in track & field is an opportunity, not a guarantee. I expect all athletes to give their best effort, respect their teammates and coaches, and represent our program with pride. If we all commit to these expectations, we will have a fun, competitive, and successful season!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Coach Bertani at [email protected].

Let’s make it a great season!
